BEST OF 2023 Publications, Author's pick (3)
Visual Effect: Film Reviews in Short Form: View Point on Current: Essay in French: Essay in English
Don’t, please, think of Golden Globe Awards 2024. In a comparaison, the list of my own pick 2023 is merely a grain of sand to an ocean.
But just to mention. My interest in Barbie has been moderately increasing since this morning when I saw the winners list of GGA online. I didn’t watch the show for my having been fed up enough with thoughts on Iowa and New Hampshire. (I don’t mean to plainly juxtapose entertainments with politics).
BEST OF 2023, AUTHOR’S PICK (Three):
(note: Juliette Masch Writes has no collaborators and this is not an account shared with multiple people nor belonging to any institution such as educational. Nor as community’s. My work as a whole is owned solely by its author, myself. Mentioning my publications, quoting from or reposting them should be made clear with Juliette Masch Writes as an individual’s work and my name, in order for me as the author to be credited in fairness).

“Into Current: Sketch Book to Encounter” link
The publication consists of brief audio clips and a collection of my sketch drawings. Never mind Sketch Book by wondering about the presence of a space between Sketch and Book in thinking why. There has been a space I placed, that’s the reason.
The drawing above (a construction site with an aero craft) was made by direct observation on the site plus simultaneous adaptation of mental reconstruction to what I was seeing. The 2D materialization of an creative act derived from duo as dual. I love construction sites. Sometimes more than their finished forms. I love also airplanes to look up at. A dream site comes true. Now as a time bound present is served with flash shot of memories. This drawing is, for that reason, the best of all sketch drawings of cityscape I inserted in the post
There more of double element in “Into Current: Sketch Book to Encounter” for the insertion of the link to Self, Life, Art (II), my audio publication. The block quote below is from “Into current: Sketch Book to Encounter” for you to refer to it in case you want to know more about my notion of art and artist as self and life. Clicking on the link in the block quote will bring you to the audio piece.
4. Art as self, life as art-self
In such a view, there is not actually so much of presence or counter-presence, or existence or counter-existence, to be all as current or counter-current. Youths of certain by-gone era might have dreamt of a splashy life of artists. Today? I’m not sure about that. Jumping into the current to swim on or against, it may depende all on one’s taste guided online. Could it be? On July 15, I published an audio piece Self, Life, Art (II) . Which is somewhat long with 17 segments in 43 minutes altogether. I mention the piece with the insertion of its link, not for suggesting all segments to revisit, but for Segments 8, 9, and 12 to make a mark. They are, respectively, about inspiration, art education, and how and why I write in the same way that I make art (in this case, specifically 3D works spoken of, but my live drawings have the same trait). Again, the relevancy is on Segment 8, 9, and 12.
FILM REVIEWS IN SHORT FORM:
“Remarks and notes” link
The uniqueness of this post can be found in its connection between a post on X (Twitter) and a great master of film, Federico Fellini, which might be able to induce a wow factor from my readers. The shift from the one to the other is an inspiration coming from a force of compelled sense I felt as a sort of urge to make an artistic sense. Its entry to BEST OF 2023 is for that jump shift. If there was an intention deeper in my motif, I wanted to save the stature of the woman with blue hair as a considerable character if the time and setting in which she presented herself are different. On X’s thread of comments on her ran from man or woman, to hippopotamus, to [one able to make a murderous desire arise], or more along those lines, I remember. The photo must have taken a real person with digital alterations as well as additions for the interior.
As for a image-shot from Fellini’s Toby Dammit, I now recall the girl was her, probably in a studio for a test filming. An imitation of the scene made much later than the film is another possibility.
Toby Dammit is a short film and I do not know whether any film critic admires it as one of Fellini’s best works or even the best. For me, it is an art with a marvelously horrific aspects of Rome (I believe that’s Rome), Italy as an enigma, into which a perplexed anglo actor fell to be loved for a play.
La Strada is, with no doubt from anyone, a master piece of Fellini.
The other film I drew from my interest was Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet. I have not re-watched the film for many years and anyone’s memory can be deceptive. However, I still say the best scene of the film was that fate decisive cuts, cuts, and cuts of the quick tensions catching Romeo and the shut-off windows.
VIEW POINT ON CURRENT:
“If never” link
The publication is very recent. The format is audio, text, with links to news articles. I inserted the screenshot from RadioGenoa’s X to introduce the topic, Islamization of Europe as well. In my voice recordings, you may also perceive my cry (restrained for the sake of civility) from the depth of soul to protest all those never-ending moves around, to label me as institutional (in this case, the unconcealed indication is designated to mental institution). Too bad for me, I have no monetary resource nor power network nor a skill for pretending to be a vulnerably fragile cartoonish ethno woman who doesn’t know what she is doing. No, the last one is not me at any event, as you must have already known that very well. Or, please help me, I just wanted to (whatever according to rapidly volatile necessities), I don’t want to go to (jail, for example, for decades, for example), I am innocent! The precedented italic is no quotation from anywhere, but expressing my profond indignation toward certain crowds by imaginarily phrasing what they would say.
If never covers and is to cover; DeSantis campaign personnel turmoil, abortion issues in Federal election 2024, and migrants situation in Europe, pertinent to the US immigration policy. DeSantis has or had been targeted by Trump, Haley, Ramaswamy and the series of campaign personnel unsettlements could be interpreted as DeSantis himself was frustrated for the effectiveness of his PAC against Trump whose allies, on the other hand, might have worked on it to make breaks to let DeSantis slow down. In bref, regarding the presidential campaign, one can see that Trump and his allies are far more experienced than DeSantis’s, for this is the third presidential campaign for Trump.
My quick glance online at news headlines has caught what Biden majorly intends to focus on for his 2024 campaign. The topic is abortion right. Tirelessly let me repeat my opinion on it as that I am against abortion, for a life has no viable point or line because a life begins upon the conception. However, the legal regulations bring it to a judicial level via politics, which will allow the government to control women’s life. Discussing the issue on the basis of the Constitution, besides, can be said as, in the worst case, pointing to debate who has a right to abort an unborn life by choice or no choice by legislative decision. I would say the issue should be suspended if possible, that would be better.
What Biden is thinking of? Dems regard abortion as women’s rights and the move as a winning card for the federal election 2024. If we had lived in a dystopia, the president in the same situation would have seen two ongoing wars will cease soon and so does voters’ attention, and anyway that’s okay for providing military materials are already done to propel the industry’s productibility and development from sufficient consumptions. In this picture, where people’s lives in wars can be placed? In this hypothetical dystopia, the president will move onto abortion rights for his short cut easy re-election.
I published two opinion pieces in 2021 about the abortion issue. One is here link
One caution, when thinking the border crisis, would be humanism turning into expediency in a pragmatism. No difficulty to understand that if all migrants are welcomed, that will mean all migrants must be the subjects of generosities. Federal cannot do all details. Local governments rely on local entities and groups in variety. Public money and donations support the operation. Pragmatic adjustments may occur when the beauty of the plan is found as having flaws.
Angry migrants in European countries, why are they angry and unhappy? One observation, when thinking of their situation, would make one remark a lack of rights which should have been given to them according to their expectation. I’m now entering political theorists’ sphere in my opinion and mind. People expect more, once given. When discontinued, they think they’re deprived of.
ESSAY IN FRENCH:
“Le cercle de pierres” link
As the author, this is my best essay 2023. War! Why not peace for all people! I wrote it directly on the Substack site as usually I do and published in the early May 2023. The theme of war crossed at The Ancient Testament in view of the promised land. The form would be said as close to a long prose poem. The style is definitely categorized as a free essay. The exegetic elements are scarce when compared to my other essays with references to the Bible or Iranian shî’isme.
Having re-read Le cercle de pierres quickly, I was deeply self-impressed by the rhythm and flow. War! Oh, may peace be! Having re-read it. I felt sad, very sad and I am sad. In May 2023, I did not know, of course, the Israel-Hamas war 2023.
Et la guerre! La paix sur la terre.
Why those people have to die, why they have to be killed as if nothing of importance?
I don’t want to say much more of it here.
ESSAY IN ENGLISH 2022-2023:
“SOPHOCLES’ FATE JUSTICE” link
The essay is from 2022. The fact is that I have not published lengthy essays/critical writings in English equivalent to this for some time. Therefore, I made an entry for Essay in English 2022-2023. And this one has been the best of all essays both in English and in French at Juliette Masch Writes for its critical content in addition to literary ambiguity in the end.
SOPHOCLES’ FATE JUSTICE is the last of my trilogy essays on The Theban Plays by Sophocles who wrote this tragedy, Oedipus at Colonus, when being close to his own death. Sophocles was born to privilege and had a wealthy long life with fame and fortune. He lived in the era of marine wars, his father was a manufacturer of armors. Sophocles was a successful dramatist of tragedy and involved also in politics. The last five paragraphs of my essay are the best part with speculative implications of Oedipus at Colonus’ ending part as possibly modified to accord to demandes or even re-written or added after his death.
Then, Ancien Greek drama of perplexity. How the tragic dramatist could justify his privileged life? He created merciless fates, sorrows, suffering, and cruel deaths. The largest implication raised by me in the end of the essay carries a question to our modern world laden with nuclear weapons. How humanity can justify the line dividing the privileged and those being killed in wars as if nothing of importance?
Let us bring Sophocles to make him answer.
This is the end of BEST OF 2023 Publications, Author’s Pick (3). Thank you very much for your interest in Juliette Masch Writes.
